Any weeding which is needed is done at a comfortable height meaning it never becomes a chore. ![]() Intensive raised bed gardening means the vegetable crops are closely planted so crowd out weeds keeping maintenance to a minimum. Raised beds are a sensible choice for a low maintenance garden as your efforts are concentrated on a small area meaning you can work, water, weed and fertilize in a more accurate fashion.Ĭoping with weeds is the number one reason why people abandon a vegetable growing project. Using deep raised beds has a number of advantages but the main one is you can produce a lot of produce in a limited space. Growing plants in timber raised vegetable beds makes a lot of sense for all vegetable gardeners but especially for urban growers where space is limited.

It should also be noted that I am using an iPhone 6.There are many ways to rip a DVD to your computer, but if you're looking for the most straightforward option, VLC is easy and free. Again, this is not a problem I had before fall 2023, and I suspect an update of said time period is to blame would be nice if Apple (my detested) let users revert to previous app states so I could investigate this more thoroughly. Needless to say, this dysfunction is not ideal. Additionally, trying to listen to an album in order - if I can get the app to register that I’ve toggled the shuffle function off, which it occasionally doesn’t, despite displaying as such - is an exercise in futility, as for some unknown reason, the app starts skipping every other song. This is frustrating, especially as I tend to use it most at work when my hands are occupied. While trying to listen to a playlist, the app will frequently randomly stop playing music after 1-5 tracks, requiring me to either enter the app to reselect the desired music or reboot the application entirely, as this occasionally is in conjunction with the whole thing becoming unresponsive. However, I’ve recently had several issues with playback. I use VLC mainly as a music library, and up until a few months ago, it served that purpose fantastically. Skips tracks, randomly stops playback, at least I don’t have to use the horror which is Apple Music That being said, some fixes/changes to the previously mentioned issues would make it even better. Overall, this is a reliable app, and has been very useful as I have moved away from streaming services and towards buying music. As a result, adding a song to the front of the queue with shuffle on does not result in the track actually being played next. Shuffle also appears to include tracks that are added to the queue via the “Play next in queue” option when shuffling. It just shows the queue as if the shuffle option were not toggled on. Playing audio through my phone speaker doesn’t have this problem, so I know it’s not my bluetooth headphones.Īdditionally, from my understanding, the queue does not show the next actual song when using shuffle play. Rewinding doesn’t make it play that part it’s just silence. Sometimes there’s a split second of sound, followed by another moment of no sound, and then the rest of the track plays normally. When I listen to tracks with a bluetooth device connected, some songs have a second of silence at the very beginning. The different categories that tracks are sorted into are very helpful (album, genre, etc.), and the network section is easy to use while also providing several ways to download/add music. I use this mainly for music so my review will focus on that. If you think this could interfere with the watching experience there’d always be the lock interface option for anyone having trouble. + the ability to zoom in by pinching your fingers on the screen, I know there’s the resize button but if I wanna see a minute detail on the screen this just doesn’t cut it. :/ Furthermore, two great additions to the app I’d like to see is custom presets, such as audio equalizer presets and video filter presets, etc. Second serious app breaking bug, when accessing my FTP server and tapping too many times I guess? it just crashes the app. ![]() ![]() Aside from that, the serious bugs are the ones like for some reason if you try to open videos too much it’ll just give you a black image even though you can see every UI aspect fine, through my 1 week of experience the only way to fix it is to just restart your device. ![]() Also I made a playlist by accident and now I can’t delete it. This one isn’t that big a deal but it’d be nice to give it a minor tweak, when I try to add subtitles from Opensubs I have to scroll up when trying to click it because it doesn’t let me otherwise, despite it being in plain view, maybe it thinks it’s under the screen or something idk. I don’t like that the settings I make like equalizer and video filters and playback delay are reset every time I reopen the app. ![]() High = substitution not possible or very difficult. Principal among these are some of Procreate’s best features, like quick shapes (not mentioned in the pipeline, but I’d be surprised if they didn’t add these), brush customization, and stabilization (both in the pipeline). There are also plans to improve the Flipbook, painting experience, resource management streaming, preloading and playback (though I’m impressed with this as-is!). Custom easings, keyframe copy and paste App pressure, smoothing, and global stabilization Adding Layer and Clipping masks to drawings Without a doubt, this is one of the best creative apps ever made.Īs of right now, the following features are in Procreate Dreams’ roadmap:Įarly updates (meant for 1.0, but delayed) There’s a lot more I could praise the comprehensive toolset, the ability to drag and drop drawings from Procreate, the real-time rendering, the potential of 1M x 1M pixel drawings, continuous auto save, and undo history. You can zoom into specific clips using the usual pinch gestures, and expand or reduce the amount of your timeline you see by swiping three fingers across the screen. Want to select multiple tracks or frames? Just draw across them with your stylus. The timeline is the best example of this, offering incredible control and detail without the need for technical know-how. Much like its drawing app sibling, Procreate Dreams is resistant to hiding features and tools in stacks of menus almost everything you need is accessible in a couple of taps, or by using one of the many touch gestures or stylus controls. There are also conventional keyframing and frame-by-frame animation options, which are made easy and intuitive, too. This allows you to animate your assets and even effects in real time by moving, warping, and resizing them. Most impressive of all of these, in my opinion, is Performance Mode. There’s an expansive Procreate Dreams handbook to get you started, of course, but in general, there are lots of tools that remove some of the complexity from traditional animation. In general, the app is incredibly friendly to first-time animators – though there are some caveats I’ll get into shortly. The top half of the screen is the canvas, and the bottom is the timeline a nice clean interface that’s much less intimidating than the likes of Adobe Animate and After Effects. While I wouldn’t go as far as to call it as intuitive as Procreate – by its very nature, an animation app is going to be far more complex than a drawing app – it’s pretty impressive how easy it is to pick up the basics. There’s a lot to love about Procreate Dreams, but one of the best things about the app is its user interface. It does work on older iPads, but it’s worth noting the performance won’t be quite as good when you're not using one of the best iPads but considering how powerful the tool is, that’s already incredibly impressive. It’s completely subscription-free, costs just $19.99 / £19.99 / AU$29.99, and supports iPads running iPadOS 16.3 or later. ![]() The first one, for me, is the biggest win of all for artists of all skill levels the price and accessibility. "Victims in most spycam crimes realise they were filmed only after illicit footage had been shared online, whereas crimes involving mobile phones are much easier to catch in the first place," said Ms Lee Hyo-rin of the Korea Cyber Sexual Violence Response Centre. These spy cams are installed in small holes in walls, public toilets, womens universities, and motels, and are mostly undetectable. While there is no official data to support Mr Shin's claim, a police official told AFP that "most" spycam footage is taken using smartphones.īut women's rights activists say the claim is "misleading", citing numerous cases involving customised cameras.įurthermore, they argue that since smartphones sold in the South are required to make a loud shutter noise when taking pictures - a measure put in place to combat spycam crimes - many offenders deploy high-tech devices or use special apps that mute the sound to secretly film victims. Molka means 'secret camera' and it also refers to illegal footage or 'spy-cam porn,' which are obtained by installing tiny cameras inside everyday items and public spaces to secretly film women. "More than 90 per cent of spycam porn crimes are due to mobile phones, not specialised items," he said, adding that any crackdown on the gadgets was akin to blaming knife makers for knife-related murders. With the Bill currently under consideration by a parliamentary committee, gadget retailers like Mr Shin fear it will turn away potential customers. "I turn customers away when it isn't clear why and what they want hidden cameras for," Mr Lee Seung-yon, who customises spycam gadgets in Seoul, told AFP.īut he admitted his approach was no guarantee against crimes. The number of spycam crimes reported to police surged from around 2,400 in 2012 to nearly 6,500 in 2017.Īccording to official statistics, about 98 per cent of convicted offenders are men - ranging from school teachers and college professors to church pastors and police officers - while more than 80 per cent of victims are women. In a burgeoning scandal that has shaken South Korea's entertainment industry, K-pop star Jung Joon-young was arrested this month on charges of filming and distributing illicit sex videos without the consent of his female partners. In one case, offenders had live streamed footage of around 800 couples having sex - filmed in hotel rooms using cameras installed inside hairdryer holders, wall sockets and digital TV boxes.Īs well as secretly filming women in schools, toilets and offices, "revenge porn" - private sex videos filmed and shared without permission by disgruntled former boyfriends, former husbands or malicious acquaintances - is believed to be equally widespread. Of course I also adjust the global exposure, if necessary. The 7Artisans 28mm 1.4 I was using here is actually a pretty high resolution lens, so I reduced structure (-30, gives smoother skin) and clarity (-15) here, for a slightly softer look. In this picture I want to increase the contrast, so it is obvious to start increasing it (+80), when you do that the dark parts can become pretty dark, so I light these a bit (shadows +10, blacks +40) and also the highlights were too blown out, so I reduced the exposure here (-40). I prefer to direct the viewer’s eye to the interesting parts, and the dark parts sometimes aren’t that interesting. Some of today’s cameras allow you to recover the dark parts of your image with ease, but this is not necessarily something you should always be doing. With black and white pictures I often go for high contrast with clearly defined blacks. Nevertheless: if you want a soft look in your portraits you may not want to use your super high resolution macro lens and if you want tack sharp, contrasty landscape shots you may not want to use your 40 years old hazy wide angle lens. If you know what you want it is pretty easy to edit pictures accordingly, so better spend time finding out what you like, instead of trying to make your Sony files look like Canon files. They may be able to tell they like pictures taken with their Olympus camera more than those taken with their Panasonic, but they don’t manage to see what these differences actually are. To me the actual problem with all these color science discussions seems to be this: many people don’t know what they actually like or want. A slight change in white balance, hue or contrast is often enough to even out these differences. Leica and Fuji fanboys won’t like to hear this, but when editing pictures to get a certain look it doesn’t really matter what lens or camera you are using. Camera and lens don’t really matter Sony A7III | Zhong Yi 135mm 1.4 | f/1.4 Furthermore, a preset may work well for lens A on camera B but can give completely funky results when using lens C on camera D.Īlso, the input is important: if you took a dull, low contrast picture no preset will turn it into an amazing high contrast one and it will be similarly hard to get a soft boudoir look from a scene with harsh light. I did gather/create some presets for myself but they are often merely a starting point. Their advertising will claim they will easily give your pictures the “best”, “timeless”, “unique”, “high-quality”, “authentic”, “stylish”, “modern”, “retro”, “vintage” look that you want. Many people will try to sell you presets for more or less money (some are also free). Not because I think it is the best software out there to do it (I don’t know which is) but because it is the software I have most experience with and can get to the results I want with relative ease.īut this also means that some parts of this article may be less useful to you if you are using a different software to process your images.
